Country Fan

It was so fun to team up with Loui Za again after Cruise Christmas for this song of summer! I have long believed everyone is a country fan come June no matter your normal taste. It's the season of road trips, bbqs, lake houses and beach weekends - so many summer memories with a country music backdrop. This song is a celebration of letting loose, being yourself, and doing all the things you've been waiting for when the sun finally comes out.

Special thanks to Jerry Touval for adding an amazing pedal steel part to really bring out the twang, Bethany Adams for inspired background vocals, and to Bethany and Josh Adams for some truly excellent hooting and hollering. Hope y'all enjoy (with apologies to Nashville!)!

Lyrics:

Title: “Country Fan"

March in Chicago I can’t understand

Holed up inside looking on Instagram

Everyone playing the same indie jams

Telling ourselves that we're happy as clams

We got lattes in the office, gray skies outside

Chasing the fashions, always falling behind

Watching the civilization decline

Peace don’t come easy to metropolitan minds

But when the sun comes out I can change my ways

Time to take advantage of the longer days

Buckle up baby,  hold on tight

Now that it’s summer, I can see the light

I’ll take a dirt road walk, I'll play a honky tonk

Drink a Natty-Ice, shoot the whiskey twice

Finally get a tan, grilling all I can

Now it’s summer man, I’m a country fan

I’ll real take it slow, hit the rodeo

Buy a pick up truck, try my fishing luck

Take a camper van across this great big land

Now it’s summer man, I’m a country fan

I try to play it cool with my bougie friends

Seattle to Manhattan they’re on top of the trends

A man can only go so far till he bends

Dreaming of the backwoods where the service ends

Sometimes I don’t remember the flyover states

Direct to California for my winter escapes

But when the ice has melted, the heartland awakes

I’m back in West Virginia for another mistake!

I’ll take a dirt road walk, I'll play a honky tonk

Drink a Natty-Ice, shoot the whiskey twice

Finally get a tan, grilling all I can

Now it’s summer man

I’ll real take it slow, hit the rodeo

Buy a pick up truck, try my fishing luck

Take a camper van across this great big land

Now it’s summer man, I’m a country fan

I’ll let my freak flag fly, bake an apple pie

Sing a bluegrass song, there ain’t nothing wrong

Pick up Kellyanne, win couple grand

Now it’s summer man

You know I want a sunset view, chapel barbeque

Put on Daisy Dukes with my cowboy boots

Join an outlaw band, I don’t give a damn

Now it’s summer man, I’m a country fan
