Shady Lady

The seeds of “Shady Lady” came from walking through Brookside Gardens, a local botanical park, in the springtime. I loved the idea of using plant names like “shady lady”, “weeping willow”, and “black eyed susan” to tell a story about an intriguing character. As soon as I started playing with the melody, it was clear to that it was going to be a fun rock song. I had a blast bringing this concept to life with new collaborator Josh Wilson (he's also releasing music under the name Ohmyjo5H). Josh provides the drums, bass, and guitar and really gives the tune a punch! We've already been cooking up some more collaborations I look forward to sharing soon. Special thanks to Bethany Adams for adding back up vocals and an excellent “sha sha sha sha."

Lyrics:

Title: “Shady Lady"

Shady Lady, I need someone like you
Hold me baby, I think you feel it too
I’ve been waiting, all these sweat soaked summer nights
Separated, my cold heart kept on ice

Shady Lady, what have you been up to lately?
You haven’t seemed as stately as you did before
Weeping Willow, are you still searching on Zillow?
Telling tall tales to your pillow, while your husband snores

Hey Petunia,  do you still sing hallelujah?
Does this whole world still move ya when you walk out the door?
Painted Daisy, when did you start to go crazy?
Everything looks so hazy, I can tell that you’re bored

Shady Lady, I need someone like you
Hold me baby, I think you feel it too
I’ve been waiting, all these sweat soaked summer nights
Separated, my cold heart kept on ice
Shady Lady!

Tiger Lily, does all your money seem silly?
You haven’t been back to Philly since you left for New York
Black Eyed Susan, when did you go back to boozin?
Have you got tired of snoozing, what are you waking up for?

Lay down in the garden, let the sun wash away all the pain
Stay here for a moment, maybe we can be happy again
Lay down in the garden, let the sun wash away all the pain
Stay here for a moment, maybe we can be happy again

Shady Lady, I need someone like you
Hold me baby, I think you feel it too
I’ve been waiting, all these sweat soaked summer nights
Separated, my cold heart kept on ice
Shady Lady!
