MSP

I'm kicking off the New Year with a mellow tune about love and longing in Minnesota, where I spent most of my 20s. It's called “MSP” (named after the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport) and loosely inspired by a time when my wife and I were long distance. This song is for anyone in the Twin Cities or otherwise who's missing somebody or gone through heartbreak. For those not familiar with the area, “First Avenue” (which pops up in the outro) is a concert venue downtown, made famous by Prince among other acts. I worked again with collaborator Josh Wilson (he's also releasing music under the name Ohmyjo5H) to bring this to life - hope you enjoy!

Lyrics:

Title: “MSP”

We can dance by the firelight
Minnesota has got those kind of nights
We built a house, not much at all
Met the neighbors, let the grass grow tall
Naturally, I bought a ring
Black box hidden in my past
Don't you know these things don't last
Do you have to leave me on my own?

I'll still be standing tall
My back against the wall at
Minneapolis St. Paul

I hate to see you go
A one way ticket and the snow
in your eyes, I recognize
I can't control you
Trying to hold you
Do you have to leave me on my own?

I'll still be standing tall
My back against the wall at
Minneapolis St. Paul

I'm still down that icy road
Winter wonder that this house could grow so cold
And will you, will you wait for me
Heard your plans are moving on
Even if I play along
Do you have to leave me on my own?

I'll still be standing tall
My back against the wall
Minneapolis St. Paul

I'll be waiting there for you
Meet me on first avenue
I'll be waiting there for you
Meet me on first avenue
I'll be waiting there for you
Meet me on first avenue
I'll be waiting there for you
Meet me on first avenue
